Energy-harvesting NFC developer kit

Time for some technology news: The new M24LR Development Kit from STMicro is out.

The development kit includes two boards, a USB powered transceiver (green) that connects to the computer, and a battery-less, energy-harvesting M24LR board (red) with an ultra-low-power 8-bit microcontroller and an LCD display – both powered by the energy harvested from NFC radio waves during the interaction.

Energy harvesting enables the development and easy deployment of self-sustained, NFC based interactive appliances. Paradiso and Starner wrote an interesting paper on energy harvesting in 2005.
